He spent almost 20 years flying F-16s, both as a fighter pilot on combat missions, including in Iraq, and as an instructor pilot. Greenburg explains that 'some number of F-16s can destroy anything on the battlefield', and that plays a big role if the enemies have 'dug themselves in.’
Donated by Western allies, the F-16s could be deployed in Ukraine by this summer, the Danish government announced. Their presence on the battlefield could allow the Ukrainian Air Force to get closer to the front lines and more effectively target Russian air defense systems.
Now, Ukrainian pilots are training in Denmark and the U.S. to fly and maintain these jets. Greenburg says, to help Ukrainians prepare for this training, he helped them with aviation terminology, as the F-16 does not have a Ukrainian language setting.
Along with Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Trevor Gersten, Greenburg also helped Ukrainian fighter jet and helicopter pilots get vital protective equipment by collecting donations from former aviators in the U.S. and Europe.
